From 8 to 11 November 2022, Rimini will host the 25th international “Ecomondo” exhibition, for many years a leading European reference point for technological and industrial innovation, sustainable development, the circular economy, action against climate change, and the promotion of new economic and cultural models.

Not by chance, through many contributions, participants and parallel events, the Rimini exhibition strongly parallels the 27th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP27) in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, where from 6 to 18 November scientists, technicians, political and institutional representatives from around 200 countries aim to finally put into concrete effect the Paris Agreement (COP21, 2015) and the international community’s climate commitments.

At #Ecomondo 2022, on 8 and 9 November, ISCLEANAIR will attend as a guest of the #EIC Accelerator – European Commission, presenting the #APA technological innovation, validated at the very high pre-industrialization level (TRL 8) thanks in part to European financial and promotional support between February 2018 and December 2020.

For its participation at #Ecomondo 2022, the ISCLEANAIR initiative was selected as one of the 50 most prestigious European projects funded in recent years:

EU Projects – EIC Accelerator | APA: APA is a filter-less air pollution abatement system for a wide range of polluting emissions from industrial processes.

ISCLEANAIR representatives will be present at the #EIC Accelerator – European Pavilion stand (SOUTH HALL – 069, near the Innovation Arena), where an innovative advanced prototype of #APA – Air Pollution Abatement technology will be displayed in the “flowerpot” configuration.

During 2021 and again in 2022, APA technology was further improved and brought to the highest technological level preceding full industrial production, Technology Readiness Level 9, within the European #PURE project – “air Purification Units for manufactuRing Environments”. The project was implemented in close collaboration by an international consortium led by #COMAU, together with #CEA and #FAGOR. #PURE achieved important results and, as planned, enabled new industrial developments, deployment and future commercial diffusion of #APA technology and solutions through a concrete operating model, recently updated as part of the strategic-plan review carried out with the company’s shareholders.

#ISCLEANAIR, once again taking an unconventional path, has in recent months launched ongoing capitalization processes and internationalization activities towards the United States, China and India, looking beyond the broad and deep global-system challenges connected with the pandemic crisis that slowed its growth in recent years. By opening up to new forms of collaboration with shareholders and major industrial and commercial partners, the company has also launched several projects serving so-called “net-zero buildings” in Italy and the UK and designed innovative development models that position it distinctively along the value chain of the growing hydrogen, sustainability, CCU&S (Carbon Capture Utilization & Storage), innovation-agreement and industrial-research sectors, enabling more effective and comprehensive implementation.

#APA ambient-air purification systems are filterless and use simple water in a nature-based process. In the versatile, scalable configuration presented at #Ecomondo 2022, they were developed in close collaboration and co-investment with #Eni as part of an Open Innovation project (2021–2022) called “Innovation Match – Superiamo l’Emergenza”. The initiative, which is still ongoing, has recently been directed towards further technological development thanks to technical improvements identified especially with the University of Pisa (Department of Earth Sciences – Acoustics) and EIT Manufacturing (European Institute of Innovation and Technology), in preparation for final product introduction to the market.

APA technology is at home at the Ecomondo international exhibition in Rimini. In November 2012, in the event’s “Sustainable City” pavilion, one of the first trials of prototype-level solutions was carried out, demonstrating the potential for significant, widespread deployment and the remarkable positive effect of implementation both environmentally and for people using the treated spaces. Using a cluster of six industrial-prototype #APA systems, the event demonstrated a reduction of more than 50% in key air pollutants after only a few days of operation, particularly atmospheric particulate matter (PM).

The following year, in November 2013, #APA technology—or more precisely ISTECH, the founders’ company that had developed the prototype—received the “1st National Green Economy Award” from the Sustainable Development Foundation (#SUSDEF) and Ecomondo, together with a medal of merit from the Presidency of the Italian Republic.

Given the importance of the activities carried out in innovation and technological development, integrated with beauty and design, and the concrete opportunities for extensive application in all living and working spaces to benefit human health and the environment, together with European Commission bodies—the European Innovation Council and EIT Manufacturing—it was decided to present and exhibit APA innovation in the same “APA Flowerpot” configuration in Brussels on 7 and 8 December at the European Innovation and Technology Summit.
